History

Billy “BD” Downs was the first to open BD’s Mongolian Grill in 1992. He has since opened numerous locations in 11 states, mostly in the north Midwest of the United States. Two other countries include Mongolia. The chain had 28 locations as of February 2015.

What It’s Famous For

American restaurant chain BD’s Mongolian Grill specializes in stir fry meals that are prepared by customers and then cooked by the chefs (known as grillers). Grillers use 3-foot-long metal sword-like tools to prepare the ingredients for diners on an 8-foot gas flattop grill that can withstand temperatures up to 300 degrees Celsius.

Why Eat Here

If you are looking for the best Mongolian BBQ experiences, BD’s Mongolian Grill should be your first choice. There are thousands of combinations possible thanks to the large variety of vegetables, seafood, meats (including chicken, pork, beef), and rice varieties. Either you can experiment with new flavors and textures, or you can stick to your favorites as suggested by family and friends.

The unlimited bowls are available at an additional cost. This is worth it considering you can take the leftovers home in a to go box. You can choose from either brown rice or white rice to make your stir-fry. However, the nutritional content of your dish will depend on the amount and type of other ingredients.

You should always check the ingredients of your stir-fry, as there may be allergens such as peanuts in your dish. It is important to be gentle with the seasonings and spices, although your server or griller will often give helpful tips.

The servers will delight you with their friendliness, efficiency, and professionalism. They refill your glasses with water, refill your rice supplies, and ask about any special requests. The bar also offers refreshing drinks that you can order without leaving your seat.
